My oncologist said Tamoxifen is not for me. He said that the side effects are bad for a women at my age (60), and that exercise would give me more protection, who agrees?

It's my understanding that tamoxifan is used for women who have not gone through menopause. I'm 62 and am taking Femara. Exercise is good for a lot of things but aromatase inhibitors help if your Estrogen Positive. Do you have all the facts about the type of cancer you have?

My doctor told me the same thing in regards to exercise and a study just came out saying that too. You have to exercise everyday and I was afraid I could not keep that up so I am on Tamoxifen, have gone through menopause, and exercise when I can. Good luck to you!

Laurie, Based on what you shared, it sounds as if you are ER- PR-. If that is the case, Tamoxifen would not do you any good as it is a hormone blocking drug. Take care, Sharon

I'm 58 and taking tamoxifen. I couldn't tolerate AIs at any level. Maybe you are estrogen negative. I do exercise yoga seems to do the best.

To convince dr for tamoxifen? I had I year of that back 10 yrs ago, and it seemed easier, altho I was 10 yrs younger and that may have made the difference .

Tamoxifen prescription should not be related to your age, from what I know. My mom was successfully treated with Tamoxifen at age 71. Your doctor's advice may have more to do with your hormone receptivity, as other posters have suggested.

I'm ER/PR negative, HER2 positive; my surgeon told me, based on the biopsy path report, that Tamoxifen would be "of no use"; after bilateral mx (my option) and surgical path report, my oncologist told me that given the size of my tumor (4 mm) that Herceptin would cause more risk than benefit; I'm 67, postmenopausal, and will start exercising as soon as my incisions stop giving me twinges any time my body gets jarred
